Biography

Sarolta VAY is a swimmer, artist, collaborator, reader, educator, and filmmaker. Whether working in fiction, documentary or experimental video; Vay conjures worlds at once fantastical and eerily familiar. Vay navigates the interstices between private and public histories using speculative fiction and historical research as guides. VAY has worked collaboratively as a member of The Water Underground; contributes to the work of No Shelter Video, and has aided and abetted queer and/or political projects for over three decades. Vay's work has appeared in museums, squats, galleries, queer land projects and everywhere in-between. Vay's artist residencies include the Santa Fe Art Institute, Banff Centre for the Arts, and the Film Farm.He was granted a Public Imagination Fellowship at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and is a recipient of the Berkeley Film Foundation grant.
