Biography

Lorin Murphy is a transgender filmmaker and producer from the San Francisco Bay Area. Upon graduating from the Academy of Arts, Lorin became a film projectionist (2001-present) and a cinematographer. He has incorporated his vast knowledge of projection technique and hands-on experience into his films. His main body of work is found footage experimental collage film, both in 16mm and video. As a founding member of the Periwinkle Cinema film collective, Lorin helped produce their feature film, Hanky Code: The Movie as part of the 2015 National Queer Arts Fest, which has since been screened across the country and internationally. In 2018 Lorin directed the Homobiles’s music video Homosafe, which premiered at the San Francisco Transgender Film Festival and also was showcased at Frameline 2019's Transtastic program. Lorin co-produced a short film based on the life of Lou Sullivan, for which he was also the lead cinematographer. Lou a San Francisco Fantasy was shown at the San Francisco Transgender Film Festival in 2020 and Translations in Seattle in 2021.
