Biography

Alexis Fosse Mackintosh is a Renaissance woman, both an artist and a scientist, she has excelled in both fields. Early in her career she won the prestigious Bronze Medal in the 1983-1984 Nikon International Photo Contest and the First Award for Best Wild Animal Photograph 36th National Print Show of the Professional Photographers of Canada. Alexis’s works have been exhibited in 52 countries of the world and are represented in the national archives of Canada. As a filmmaker her films have received a “Special Jury Award” from the Yorkton Short film Festival, the a Bronze and a Silver Apple from the Oakland Educational Festival and one of her films was a finalist in the New York Film Festival. As a scientist she has co-authored a number of papers on biofuels and holds two patents on hydrothermal processes which are registered in multiple countries and has three other patent applications pending. Alexis has degrees in Chemistry (B. Sc. 1979) and Psychology (B.A. first class honours 1988) from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, B.C.

alexis fosse mackintosh is a photographer and researcher based in Vancouver, Canada. Her current focus is on nature, wildlife and, in particular, birds. She travels with her beagle, Georgie who is her muse and sometimes annoyance who makes her stop and smell the roses (and everything else). Trained in chemistry and psychology at Simon Fraser University in the last century, she can be found in her bio-fuels lab when she is not chasing the light.
