Biography

I've been told countless times that my <<cough>> "marketability" as a professional filmmaker and artist critically depends on whether I have a website named after myself. Worse yet, this self-branding website should tastefully-yet-unabashedly boast about receiving latin honors from an Ivy League college, my two graduate degrees, my co-founding of Rasquaché Film Productions and directing two features (one Independent Spirit Award-nominated), and any self-serving accolades and achievements garnered throughout my infinitesimal existence, as well as spell out my very Mexican, very female identity. My intellectual pursuits -- those pesky, insatiable cravings and curiosities -- are personal; my identity is complicated, and as inward-facing as it is outward-facing; and my creations veer from heady and ambitious to absurd and frivolous -- and it all keeps me going. I care deeply about cinema, philosophy, and human understanding, and I disdain a world in which I have to have a website. Consider this an attempt to create a faux-secret digi-chamber of the self.

Kelly Daniel Norris. “Casa,” n.d. https://www.kellydanielanorris.com.

Kelly graduated magna cum laude from Columbia University with a degree in Film and Psychology, and taught for 3 years in the South Bronx with Teach for America. She co-directed the narrative short film SINNERMAN (winner of Audience Favorite Debut at the Route 66 International Film Festival and the Black Expressions Award at Indianapolis International Film Festival), and studied screenwriting under the mentorship of David Milch (DEADWOOD). At the four-year anniversary of her brother’s passing, Norris began the process of writing, producing and directing her feature debut, SOMBRAS DE AZUL, in his memory.
