Description

Over the course of more than a year, we are witness as Phong, a twentysomething trans woman from a small village in Vietnam, eagerly struggles to express her truest self—through her own thoughts and in daily life—while she physically transforms from male to female and her friends and family try to make sense of it all. This uplifting film, part intimate video diary and part traditional documentary, was screened at the Vietnam National Assembly, inspiring its members to vote to change the Vietnamese Civil Codes to recognize the rights of transgender citizens. This law will take effect in 2017.
