Homecoming Queenz

2019, 11 minutes
Landscape iPhone footage of two Palestinian drag queens, Elias Wakeem and Oz Marinov, seated in an airplane looking out of the window, illuminated by the daylight. Their faces are not fully in the image, but their mouths are slightly open in an awed expression. They are both in drag, wearing fur, red lipstick and earrings.

By exploring the intersectionality of being a queer Arab, this short film programme reminds us that queerness is only at odds with systems of oppression. It takes us on a multifaceted and poetic journey, showcasing figures of resistance to the Israeli occupation, Palestinian drag queens, and intimate family relationships.
