Description

Reading Serena Nanda's book, 'Neither Man nor Woman' in 1991, Californian Anne Ogborn was struck struck by how the transgender people Nanada described had found a different way to deal with non-transgendered people and with each other. In 1993 she learned rough Hindi and went to new Delhi where she found an independent Hijra community with the help of gay Indian men. After meeting the community of Bangladeshi guru Ratnaa and going out dancing with them, she joined the group which became her family. The video was shot over the last days near the end of her first stay. She has since returned to India twice more and is trying to arrange visits to the US for some of her sisters.
