Description

Strella has all the makings of a post-modern Greek tragedy, with just as many twists of strange fate as Sophocles' Oedipus Rex. Suspense, romance, birth and death are all rendered with incredible gusto. But rather than leaving its players maimed or exiled, like the plays of ancient Greece, Strella reveals a provocative, vital humanity through its one-of-a-kind characters. Yiorgos is released from prison after fourteen years of incarceration for a murder he committed in his small Greek village. He spends his first night of freedom in a cheap downtown hotel in Athens where he meets Strella, a young transsexual prostitute. What initially starts out as a one night stand turns into love, as Strella invites Yiorgos into her community of trans women artists and outcasts. But when Yiorgos returns to his village to sell his house he finds himself grappling with his painful past—a struggle that gravely complicates his new relationship with Strella and his dream of starting over.
