The Same, But Different follows the lives of four very different trans people living
in the Midwestern United States. Claven, born biologically female, transitioned to
male for four years but recently transitioned back to female after hearing the voice
of God. A fundamentalist Christian in her twenties, she struggled to find an accepting
parish. Andrea, biologically male, is a woman on pink days and a man on blue ones
and is a Republican as well as a Catholic. Jaron began transitioning from female to
male at the age of 45, and has difficulty telling the women he dates that he is trans.
Nicole, who is male-to-female, is a left-leaning liberal democrat who is close with
her children. All four subjects candidly discuss their lives in intimate detail, allowing
the audience to share their realities.
